What's the difference between PDF render engines?

It’s not clear in settings what’s the difference between the PDF render engines and which one is preferred.

Generally speaking, we use the Apple render engine by default. When that fails to render correctly you may try switching to the MN one. With that said, you can also use the MN render engine for every PDF.
