CRITICAL BUG: PDF pages flash briefly and then go blank

I have tried running MN4 in Rosetta mode, but the issue still occurs on the 27” display

The “support” provided by this support channel reminds me of this Monty Python Cheese Shop Sketch. “Not much of a cheese shop, is it? … Well, it’s certainly uncontaminated by cheese”.

Is there, in fact, any support available to customers who have purchased MarginNote 4 (Max) or are we in Monty Python land?

Have you tried zooming out and zooming in a little. And then waiting for it to render?

I’m truly sorry that recent network troubles have kept me from accessing the forum—I feel really bad about this.

Would it be possible for you to share the file via Google Drive, or send it to the email service@marginnote.com? That would help me catch up smoothly, and I’d be so grateful for your kindness.

Again, please accept my sincere apology for any trouble or delay this might have caused you. I really appreciate your understanding.

Hi @Adeline,

Thank you for the response.

I am not able to send attachments to external email addresses or upload to any non-enterprise file-shares from my work machine due to data-loss prevention measures. I recently purchased Robert Martin’s Clean Code, Second Edition and opened it in MN4. Brand new PDF, no annotations etc. and MN4 still does its “blank page magic”. Resizing the window until it is about 55% of the Apple Studio Display’s vertical height “fixes” the blank pages, but makes MN4 rather useless.

If you guys are interested, grab / borrow a 27” Apple Studio Display, hook it up to a MacBook Pro and pick any PDF—or grab a copy of Martin’s book—and I’d imagine you’d be able to reproduce the bug without difficulty… but who knows.

As of now I have abandoned any hope that this bug in MN4 will ever be fixed, will stick with MN3 until the Christmas break, and then switch over to Heptabase or LiquidText.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that neither Heptabase nor LiquidText have any issues at all rendering the same PDFs, so this is not an “insufficient resources” issue. This is a bug in MN4’s PDF renderer or a bug in macOS that only MN4 is somehow susceptible to.
