"Export StudySet" - what does file contain?

I haven’t been using this in MN4 because I don’t entirely understand how it works.
If I choose “Export StudySet Backup”, what exactly does that exported backup file contain? If I save that file on an external drive and then delete all the originals from my laptop (not only the studyset itself, but also the annotated documents it contained, mind map, etc) does the backup file rebuild everything when I open it? I have tried this, but despite having deleted the originals opening the backup asks whether I want to replace the originals (which I thought no longer exist, as I deleted them and then emptied the trash).

So I haven’t messed around with this function due to lack of clarity on what it is doing, and fear of losing data. I’d really like to know what is SUPPOSED to happen with this, though!

Thank you for using our product and providing feedback. After consulting the technical department, they informed me that the prompt “Whether to replace the original document” appears because the document notebook has not been deleted. If you make a backup, the mind maps, handwritten notes, etc. will not be lost.

@Adeline
I did delete them, and followed with repeated empties of the trash. After this I can no longer see the documents or the studyset, but when I open the backup file it seems to recognize that they are still present somehow.

Honestly I’m not very worried about “ghost” files, just want to be sure what the backup files contain. Am I right that if everything has been deleted from MarginNote and I open the backup file 2 months later, it will contact the original documents, all their comments/cards, the mind map, etc? I don’t wish to be repetitive, just want to be confident that I understand so I don’t throw anything important away! I want to get completed documents and projects off my laptop, but still have them available in future if/when I want to add to them, review them, etc. Hoping the backup file contains everything, and I do not care how big the files are.

Yes, remember to select “Include All Documents”.

The option to “include all documents” is not visible, or does not come up for me. How do I access that?

The option to include all documents can be found in “Backup and Data” under the settings.
