Hi MarginNote Team,
First of all, thanks for creating such a fantastic app. MarginNote has become one of my main study tools, and I really appreciate the amount of thought that’s gone into its workflow.
I have one suggestion that I think would make a big difference for users who work with large Study Sets.
At the moment, when a Study Set contains a large number of documents, it can become quite difficult to locate a specific file. While search helps, browsing through a long document list isn’t always efficient, especially for courses or research projects with dozens (or even hundreds) of PDFs.
It would be great if the Documents section inside a Study Set supported a simple categorisation system, such as folders, custom categories, or tags. This would allow users to organise imported documents by topic, chapter, semester, project, or any structure that suits their workflow.
For example, a researcher working across several areas of medicine might organise their papers into categories such as:
- Neuroscience
- Neuroanatomy
- Cognitive Neuroscience
- Neurodegenerative Diseases
- Neural Imaging
- Cardiology
- Cardiovascular Physiology
- Heart Failure
- Cardiac Imaging
- Immunology
- Autoimmune Disorders
- Neuroimmunology
- Immunotherapy
Each category could contain papers and reference materials relating specifically to that field. This would be particularly useful when a Study Set includes a large interdisciplinary literature collection, as users could browse documents by research area rather than searching through one long, unstructured list.
This would make navigation much faster and help keep large Study Sets organised as they continue to grow.
I believe this feature would be especially valuable for graduate students, researchers, and anyone managing extensive reading materials.
Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestion, and thanks again for continuing to improve MarginNote.
Kind regards,
Callum Mercer
