Have you ever deleted a large Notebook and then restored it? If so, have you lost some data or everything was fine?

I have 2 large notebooks and since I want to free up storage on my iPad I was thinking of backing up both and transferring the backup file to a HDD (I don’t have an iCloud subscription); if one day I want to transfer these notebooks back to my iPad and then restore them to MN3, will I risk losing some of the material? What is your experience?
