Hi - slowly coming to terms with MN4 and today is the first time I tried to export a PDF file that I marked up in the application. I know that my only option is to flatten the document, so annotations will no longer be editable, extractable by normal PDF readers, etc. However, I was not expecting highlighted passages to be redacted - there is no point in saving a document that has its most interesting/relevant passages hidden. I did not use any kind of “hiding” function for self-testing purposes - just the standard excerpt/text annotation tool with a color highlight.
Can anyone advise whether I have missed an appropriate setting, or if this is some kind of bug? It is important, because I have projects for which I don’t need to save the MN4 studyset and just want to save the documents/notes.
Images below show the highlighted passages in MN4 and the exported PDF.
Wow this seems problematic. Redact is completely different from PDF’s native highlight so if it’s possible they should highlight instead of redacting the text.
Indeed! Hoping someone from MN can respond, and wondering if anyone else is seeing this? I thought at first that it must be user error on my part, but if so I haven’t figured out how. I have used this same highlight/extract function in MN3 for years without encountering this problem.
I thought I’d close the loop to note that this problem has resolved itself. I stopped using the app at the time, and when I tried it again recently the issue was gone. I assume one of the periodic updates fixed it.
