Hello Braintrust,
Scratching my head over a new development. One of my iPads seems to be stuck in an iCloud sync loop of some kind. If you go into the sync setting, normally MarginNote 4 tells you that it’s uploading or downloading and then stops with a “Database synced” message. On one of my iPads (11" iPad Pro), MarginNote seems stuck in a loop in which it cycles through “Uploading Notes to iCloud: Sample review group”, “Syncing database”, and “Uploading Notes to iCloud: Sample StudySet”. It never stops regardless of how long I let it go, and if I open MarginNote 4 on my Mac or other iPads they commence responding to it, as well - and will cycle the same way. If MarginNote is not open on the 11" iPad Pro the other devices sync and stop normally.
I assume this is some kind of corruption within the Sample Studyset that was installed with the application - I’ve never bothered to delete it, and occasionally check it to see if it highlights any new tricks that I should try with my own work. I will delete it, but before doing so thought I would reach out to see whether there are any other possible contributing factors that I should be aware of?
Thanks. The problem did not resolve with restarting (tried this several times).
I deleted the Sample StudySet and am no longer seeing the issue - if it recurs with other documents/studysets I will reach out!
Hey flann, I have exactly the same issue but for some reason even deleting the study set does not solve it. Did you do anything besides deleting the sample study set? I would be really grateful if you could tell me the exact steps you went through (e.g. delete study set, delete review study set, delete local files, restart ipad).
This is driving me crazy and I need the notes on my iPad as well. Currently, I can only work from my Mac and for some bizarre reason deleting the files solved the issue on my iPhone as well. But I am stuck with a non-syncing iPad
@Lorenz
I did not do anything beyond deleting the study set, so I am sorry you are experiencing ongoing issues.
The problem did start happening on my other devices (only that same study set), so I deleted it on all devices. I did not delete the sample files that were in that study set - I still have the documents on my devices. I have not experienced this same problem with any other study sets - just the sample, and on multiple devices.
I’m sorry that I don’t have a further solution for you. In that situation I might consider trying to uninstall/reinstall MN4, but perhaps someone else will have a better idea.
Thanks for the quick reply I have actually solved it in the meantime by meticulously following the Chinese MarginNote Handbook on this issue (using the Safari translator). Unfortunately, the only way to solve it was to create a new database and to copy and paste a backup of my old (non-syncing) database into the new one. Now it all works great! I highly recommend trying this to everybody who has had any issues when it comes to syncing issues, especially when it involves the Sample studyset!
