MN4 can recognize and identify duplicate imported documents automatically, and memorize deleted documents in a notebook?

I imported a pdf document (let’s call it a.pdf) to a notebook and a local folder of MN4. Then I deleted a.pdf and imported another pdf document (let’s call it b.pdf).
a.pdf and b.pdf are actually two different electronic scans (they have different sizes and different names) of the same book.
However, when I imported the b.pdf to the same notebook and the same local folder, the b.pdf didn’t appear in the notebook and the local folder. Instead, the deleted file a.pdf was restored again!
So is there a hidden function in MN4 which can automatically recognize and identify the pdf documents, so if the newly imported document is recognized as a duplicate of an old document, the MN4 automatically refuses the new document and opens the old document?
And is there another hidden function in MN4 which can somehow memorize the deleted document, so if a duplicate new document is imported, MN4 refuses the new document and restore the deleted old document instead?
If my conjectures are right, then I don’t think these functions are necessary, because now I only want to get rid of the old document a.pdf and import the new document b.pdf.

Hello

It is recommended that you take a look at the MN4 official manual: https://www.wolai.com/89rjeaKjQmD9m2kygMQeJE the content you do not understand is basically here to get answers, you can use shortcut ctrl + p to search for the problem you want to know to learn

I don’t think anything in the document you sent me can solve my problem. The memory of deleted duplicate documents is unpleasant, and I hope this feature could be removed.

Thank you for your suggestion! Actually, this issue can be indirectly resolved by creating a new document notebook. However, since you’ve brought it up, we’ve taken note of it. The matter will be thoroughly discussed and evaluated, and we’ll also consider possible improvements. Thanks again for your valuable feedback!

@littlemogu
Can you please elaborate on how to accomplish this - “create a new document notebook” in order to “kill” an earlier version of a PDF?
I have a big problem with this currently!

I imported a PDF with faulty hyperlinks so want to delete that one and import a fresh version with links that work. But even though I deleted the first version, trying to import the new file results in resurrection of the faulty old version. Renaming files makes no difference - MN4 is preserving that original file somehow/somewhere and it cannot be replaced.

I suspect that there is no way around this but the comment above from @littlemogu gives me hope!

@Kumin
Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

@flann I don’t have a solution either. You may try to edit your new document a little bit, say, delete a blank page, to distinguish it from the old one.

@Kumin
Thanks for confirming. Yes, giving it a different name definitely doesn’t help. I will try adding a blank page in a PDF editor and see if that forces MN4 to see it as something new.

@flann Another way you could try: import your new document first, then delete your old faulty document afterwards. The old document is resurrected only if you delete the old document before importing the new one.

@Kumin
That is an interesting idea that I didn’t think to try with my recent issue.
I’ll try it! Thanks for sharing it.

@Support-Team My remedy works. Nevertheless, I still think the unpleasant feature of resurrecting deleted documents needs to be removed in MN4.
