Problem 01:
It seems like the problem of sorting excerpts in two-column documents still exists in MN4. Excerpts are still being sorted automatically by their appearance on the whole page rather than in the relevant column. (i.e. an excerpt at the top of the right column will be sorted before an excerpt at the bottom of the left column)
Problem 02:
I was hoping the new upgrade have come with more functionalities like creating tables with different designs inside the note card. Obviously, creating tables inside the notecards is still dependent on the community add-ons. We need this “creating tables” functionality to be native.
kindly, is there any solution for these problems soon?
Oh no! I was really really hoping that this sorting problem would be resolved in MN4.
I just checked it myself with a 2-column PDF and was horrified to see that you are right.
So frustrating.
I’m going to guess, so take this with a grain of salt. Does any application deal with this correctly? It may be something that has to be baked into the PDF. In other words, a PDF would have to describe a “first” and “second” (or third etc) column. As PDFs are just boxes and text, there is no way to tell if one box comes before another and thus developers (like MN) are forced to use other methods to determine this (vertical location on a page, for example).
And even if they got clever with this, writing systems differ (r to l, l to r, vertical) and then what about pages that have multiple layouts where some of it is one column and some of it is two columns.
I’m not making excuses for MN. If one can show that other apps handle this gracefully (with the same PDF) then that is good news for sure.
One thing that MN could do is to allow users to specify “ordering” of excerpts (particularly in TOC/Outline). While this would be additional cognitive load, it would allow users to order things the way that makes sense to them.
