What does it mean to "Import" file?

Hello

If I have a PDF file stored in iCloud Drive, what does it mean to import that file in a folder in MN? Does it copy the file? Does it change the file in iCloud Drive when I make annotation?

Short answer：
Meaning copy.

Long answer：
And in the apple’s APFS file system, ‘copy’ do not occupy more space in theory. Any annotation to it will not influence the original PDF file in your Icloud and even not influence the PDF in Marginnote inner forder. Because Marginnote‘s Annotation and excerpt is saving in its own format notebook and sync by CloudKit which is not visible in your icloud forder at present.
