Is there a way to use the iPad app on a Mac (M-series chips)?

I really enjoy using MarginNote on my iPad, and I use it a lot, especially when creating mind maps. I’d love to be able to use the same app on my MacBook when I’m working from there, particularly when reviewing large mind maps.

I’m not asking for a fully separate native Mac app (I know there is one already); I’m just hoping for a way to run the iPad version on macOS as a support tool, even if it’s not fully optimized (many iPad apps now allow this kind of use thanks to Apple’s M-series chips)

Anyway, thank you for your amazing work on this app. I really hope to improve my productivity with it even further.

Dear Ademori,

Thank you for your attention! If what you need is simply an iPad support tool or an extended screen (to give you more room to work within the mind map interface), you might find this article helpful: https://www.wolai.com/6ZSwnjJ3hrqUWEtyrXc6WA#ncSfWHhh1yvx8m9i6a6MU2 — it explains how to achieve that using Apple’s built-in screen mirroring feature. If I’ve misunderstood your needs, please kindly clarify them in more detail. Thank you so much!

Best regards,
MN Support Team.

Thank you so much for the kind response!

Unfortunately, I’ve already tried using Apple’s built-in screen mirroring feature, but I’m facing several issues that make it unusable:

  1. The resolution appears incorrect, and the image is noticeably pixelated/blurry.

  2. The aspect ratio doesn’t match my Mac’s screen

  3. I’m unable to use my Mac’s mouse and keyboard to control the iPad while it’s being used as a second screen.

  4. The iPad screen has to remain constantly on, which is a waste of power… especially since I don’t actually need to see or interact with the iPad itself during use.

I was looking into a more integrated solution… ideally by simply using the same app directly on macOS.

If there’s any workaround or third-party tool that resolves the limitations of MN4? There is a way to download the same app from the Mac App Store?
I’m not concerned about having a perfect or fully optimized experience, I’d simply like to take advantage of the M chips capabilities and the seamless integration of the Apple ecosystem.

(I don’t mind if the solution is a bit technical — I enjoy working with technology and I think I can handle a more advanced setup if needed)
Thanks again for your time and support!

Edit: Sorry, I had tagged you thinking it was necessary, my mistake. I now realize it probably wasn’t needed and might actually be more of an annoyance, especially for those working in support. My apologies

Dear Ademori:

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback and thoughtful suggestions!

At the moment, the only way to use MarginNote 4 on macOS is by directly installing the Mac version of the app. Unfortunately, there isn’t currently a way to run the iPad version of MN4 or achieve full functionality purely through Apple ecosystem features except screen mirroring or Universal Control.

That said, we completely understand your desire for a more seamless and integrated workflow. Your ideas make perfect sense, and we’ve noted them for internal discussion and future evaluation.

And no worries at all about tagging me—we really appreciate users who take the time to share thoughtful input like this. Thanks again for your support and patience!

Best regards,
MN Suppport Team.
