I’d like to make make one annotation a child of the one above it. I would like to do this without leaving the Document mode, without to go into mindmap mode. Occasionally I like to link two annotations together as well with a hyperlink. Can this be done in document mode? There are a lot of annotations and it takes a long time to look through the mindmap. It’s much easier to see them on the actual page, tap and find the other in the book (sometimes on the same page).
I understand you and your needs fully because I feel the same way like you in past
Because when the user takes notes, there should be no distractions
I used to do it (without leaving doc mode) with colours for classification (parent~child).
When I finish reading I used to open mind map only.
The only operation tool for improving doc mode productivity @Support-Team can improve is TAG
Tag is now most sophisticated tool on the new note taking apps like obsidian, roam note and etc…
But unfortunately tag specialities in MarginNote is so immature, so many users talked about it before… never taken into account by developers;
Thanks for the response and getting back so quickly Edward.
I think the best example I can think off of the top of my head is something similar to the search function in a mac/apple contacts list.
When you pull up the contacts app on a mac, you can quickly search to locate a contact by beginning to type the first few letters the name in the search field:

As you type the name, the alphabetized list of contact narrows and you can quickly select the corre…
I guess it depends
I think there are different tags (file/study tags or categories, and notes tags), and for now I only used file/study tags. I use them to classify files in categories that can coexist. For example, a study can be about a single document (#article) or a topic (#topic), and both tags are inside a #range tag. Other categorization is about what brain area the study is about: #basal_ganglia, #hippocampus, #neocortex (all inside #brain_areas). Also I can classify file…
Hashtags are an incredibly powerful feature, as they allow for the kind of qualitative data analysis found in programmes like MaxQDA, NVivo, and Atlas.ti. i.e. You can tag each individual quote in your research materials, and then retrieve those quotes using search filters.
BUT, in their current form, hashtags are just a massive list with no hierarchy or differentiation. This makes things messy when working with hundreds of hashtags, as you end up with a completely disorganised list.
I would r…
I even requested some speciality for taking notes only in document mode about tags but these ones didn’t taken into account too:

We can make section in another section and see the numbers of tagged document each section for files tag.
WHY we cannot do the same for the margins of document itself ?
I don’t know the developers are using but It d be like a Pinterest app if we can categorize them…
all notes linked to another with the tags and they become panels… so we can jump one note to another with less friction…

For lot’s of tags users ıt d be beatifull if we can screen the “last used ta…
The users can not access and copy their tags from multiple study easily.
Because if they want to copy nodes from multiple studies, they need to do it one by one.
And every time they do the book (that selective nodes from) is going to involved to study (that’s another issue)
I suggested this:
But no result unsurprisingly !!! (The team is answering these topics they don’t like with copy-paste answer, so they show their full interest about future of MN )
So T…
We have something “tag”
But now let’s imagine about different term, “tag group”
It’s like a title link but it’s different from it
What makes the difference is when “tag group” created (let’s say named X in the study of A), all tagged noded from multiple studies (B,C…) with X, going as a CHILD AUTOMATICALLY (without copy\paste process) under X in the study of A.
Benefits:
-the user won’t need to copy paste nodes (or captures) from all studies for selective tag name.
-it will save the time a…
Maybe you can optimize it opening directly search results with tag…
I mean you don’t have to create something that may be problematic for software, you can make it like shortcut to search. @Bubble_Support-Team
So the user can screen, access, edit the SAME tag in DIFFERENT Studies…
What do you think:
@Support-Team
But now: I m using only mind map. You can check it out my style:
İ think the starting self question of margin note is,
you want to edit directly on nodes/captures (detailed one document work, maybe you like more pencil usage etc)
you want to just summerize your nodes / or want to create new a note from referenced multiple document
if its one you should focus on mind map and get everyting on mind map
if second you should focus links and try to create as much as links from your captures/annotations.
İ mean just create annotations with organised colour or h…
After handwriting update for mind maps, I highly recommend working with only mind map.

I was capturing “””just important titles/things””” old time.
But the problem is our brain can’t focus 2 source at once (document or mind map ???) (I once read only %10 people can do multitask effectively)
I had to decide one thing for sure, so I decided mind map.
Now I am taking literally everything on mind map, leaving nothing behind.
Then, I am making arrangements later.
And I am happy now …

Thank you for the detailed answer. It’s disappointing because working in “mindmap only” mode is best if you’re dealing with a short document. It is not a good way to read and annotate a book.
Yeah i agree, thats why i also insist in doc mode improvements.
İ choose mimd map only when there is a document every information counts like a text book or reference document for my jop
Mind map only mode has a advantage of searching other mind map nodes and present a good way to connect them without leaving one mind map
But when it comes doc mode, there is so hard to connect other nodes without leaving keep read. Every copy paste process makes focusing harder
